New Irish documentary about Corrib Gas Pipe Project

category dublin | environment | event notice author Tuesday November 23, 2010 11:13author by Deirdre O'Reilly - Irish Film Instituteauthor email doreilly at irishfilm dot ie Report this post to the editors

Gala Preview of the award-winning Irish documentary about the controversial Corrib Gas Pipe project, THE PIPE, will take place at Irish Film Institute, 6 Eustace St., Temple Bar, Dublin 2 on Thursday, December 2nd at 18.00. THE PIPE will be released nationwide on Friday December 3rd

There will also be two further discussions – The Pipe: Rossport and the Corrib Gas Project and The Pipe: Politics and Film – on Dec 4th at 13.30 and 11th at 13.30 respectively, at the IFI. Please visit www.ifi.ie for more details.

The Pipe is a compelling documentary of Rossport’s struggle against the economic might of Shell and the tragic divisions that have split a once-peaceful and close knit community. Risteard Ó Domhnaill’s passionate, brave and beautifully shot documentary, produced by Rachel Lysaght (Underground Films), for Scannáin Inbhear, has already picked up the Best Documentary Award at the Galway Film Fleadh 2010, as well as being highly acclaimed by audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this year.

The Gala Preview of The Pipe at the IFI on December 2nd will be attended by director Risteard Ó Domhnaill, producer Rachael Lysaght, and members of the Rossport community.

The Pipe is produced by Scannáin Inbhear with funding from Bord Scannán na hEireann / the Irish Film Board and TG4.

We eagerly await the showing of the filme at the Irish Film Centre. What an apt and descripted name? The Pipe.

The IMF are in Ireland now and the Eurogroup - so let's ask them to re-evaluate how we place monetary value and human value on our natural resources. Norway is the model country in its handling of its offshore assets.

There's a good review of this film by poet William Wall on his blog. See link below.
