Jump To Comment: 1 2 3 4Everyone knows that the Karzai government is corrupt and that the so-called democratic elections this year were a farce.
No real democratic opposition exists and warlords and drug dealers control Afghanistan.
BUT the only other alternative remains the Taliban.
Only the presence of NATO forces it is pretty clear that the Karzai government which has little influence outside of Kabul would soon collapse.
The Taliban would almost certainly seize control once again and impose the barbaric regime that existed in 2001 and the Al-Qaeda would once again establish training camps for Islamist terrorists from around the world.
The anti-war movement wants NATO troops to leave at once.
What then?
Are we to imagine that the Taliban and Al-Qaeda will not return to business as usual and that America and Europe cannot expect more 9/11 style attacks?
The 9/11 attacks was the culmination of a campaign of attacks that began years before most notably the attack on the WTC in 1993 which almost demolished the buildings long before George W. Bush even thought he could get into the White House.
The target of Islamist extremism is not America although they are convenient.
Islamists seek nothing less than the Islamisation of the entire world and are prepared to use violence to achieve it.
The taliban reduced the heroin supply to zero. Under the US occupation Afghanistan now supplies 80%+ of the world's heroin again. Curious statistic that! If the US spent only a fraction of their military budget on proper conditional aid to the taliban, they could probably create a much better equilibrium in Afghanistan.
Anyway, what business is it of the Americans how other people run their own countries. Do afghans worry about gays living in the bible belt in the US and plan military occupations to safeguard them from religious fanatics?
By the way, a little known fact is that the taliban offered to give bin laden to the americans but the americans didn't accept the deal.
It's also little known that they made this offer:

Al quaeda are a US invention. There are a few hundred of them in the whole country if even that. They are just an excuse to carry out imperial policy and transfer billions of dollars of public money into the purses of private corporations, be they military corporations like lockheed martin, or other corporations like halliburton who provide services to the military or do rebuilding.
Open your eyes. It's all part of a big scam to make money, and there's really a LOT of it at stake here.
And it's just common sense that folks like the taliban can only be moderated by their own people getting tired of their rules, not a foreign occupier making them seem heroic.
It would be cheaper to just pay these corporations directly to stop them interfering in US politics as is suggested here by Paul Craig Roberts:
http://www.counterpunch.org/roberts12022009.html
Quote:
"The military budget is nothing but an entitlement for the military/security complex. To hide this fact, the entitlement is disguised as protection against “enemies” and passed through the Pentagon.
I say cut out the middleman and simply allocate a percentage of the federal budget to the military/security complex. This way we won’t have to concoct reasons for invading other countries and go to war in order for the military/security complex to get its entitlement. It would be a lot cheaper just to give them the money outright, and it would save a lot of lives and grief at home and abroad."
I agree with Roberts. Pity it'll never happen and we're stuck with the horrible alternative. All just to make money for a bunch of fat capitalists who like to make weapons as their great contribution to mankind. Well those guys and another bunch of capitalists who want to continue spreading heroin use far and wide. Lovely.
From Reading Above comments I do not think you have an idea of the history of Afghanistan or even how complex the situation is with leaving 'Al Queda' or the USA out of the debate if take a look inside the culture even among the people there conflict among different Ethnic groups - Pashtoons have been in power for nearly 300 years and being the majority have surpressed and persecuted other ethnic groups specifacally Hazara one more recent example in history would have been in late 90's when the Taliban (Pashtoon) killed thousands of Hazara in the city of Mazar e Sharif, even among Afghans themself I think if the dominant race in power is Pashtoon which Karzai is and the majority of the administration and if there is not more power sharing among Afghans of Hazara, Tajik, Uzbek Baloch etc I do not think regardless of outside interferance things will not change let Afghan people decide for themself, their history has been interferred with enough just a shame the so called activist do not have a deeper understanding of Afghanistan Iran or Iraq cultures etc its always thought of from a western perspective its so patronising.
Rawa --the revolutionary womans organization of Afghanistan says that they want the Foreign military occupation to leave immediately, as the last eight years of illegal occupation has not helped the Afghani people, but has created the fact of two enemies for the people to fight instead of the one enemy the warlords and war criminals that are making up 50% of the puppet Karzai government. Zoya a RAWA speaker in the U.S.A says the actual conditions for woman and their liberation has deteriated during the occupation, and now the only freedom the women feel is the freedom to be raped and made miserable by the government, and that the U.S. Military collaboration with criminals and warlords has caused an increase of women doing suicide to escape the humiliation and misery and sickness they feel increasing every day as the bombing and killing of the Afghani peoples continues unabated. So why should the U.S. and Nato stay in their country when they do not improve the living and working conditions, but rather make matters worse. If they left immediately then the Afghani people would have only one enemy locally to deal with, and that would cut in half the oppression they feel even now, and on going every day.
What is really needed is to double democracy and elect woman equally in every level, so they can access making half the laws being half the people, and half the wealth and law making religio wise. That move to restore the matriarchy is long overdue. Empires conquored the matriarchy which was most fully practiced before the conquest of empires on earth, which put in place rule by warlord males over the equality of women. The material laws of joy and harmony of the species are genuine equality between man and woman, the 50-50 electing that causes the natural organic ecological balance to return. With a new millenium you'd think such a move should take place. Male domination of democracy is not the natural man woman question that only equality can fully adress. None of Nato's countries has fully resolved this question so it is natural that the Rawa would ask the foreign occupiers to go home and solve their problems in their own country and not add more troubles to the women of Afghanistan.
