McGibbon Remarks 'Hollow' - RSF

category national | miscellaneous | press release author Thursday August 14, 2008 21:30author by Richard Walsh - Republican Sinn Féin Report this post to the editors

RSF have stated that Cllr. McGibbon's condemnation of the Irish News for publishing Brit recruitment ads are hypocritical given his party's own recruitment attempts for British forces in Ireland.

A Provo councillor's complaints about British army recruitment advertisements are hollow given his party's own record, said a spokesperson for Republican Sinn Féin.

Director of Publicity, Richard Walsh, said: “Craigavon Borough councillor Johnny McGibbon's remarks about ads appearing in the Irish News promoting enlistment in the British army are hypocritical given his party's unceasing urges for people to enlist in another section of the British Crown Forces, namely the RUC. They share the 'long and violent history in Ireland' which he attributes to other sections of the British military.

“Mr. McGibbon should also clarify his views on the recent remarks of his party colleague in Ballymena – Monica Digney – who stated that she had not opposed a council vote supporting British soldiers parading through the town on their return from Afghanistan. At the very least this amounts to tacit support on her part for the British forces of occupation.

“Conversely, true Republicans continue to express their position of eternal hostility to the enemy.”

Is this for real 'British soldiers parading through the town on their return from Afghanistan'. If this is going ahead, when will it take place? This would be outrageous and should be condemned by all decent Irish people. I would expect great opposition to this from all anti-war organisations and nationalists and republicans. Let the British Army hold their militant parades back in their own country and get the fuck out of ours, le cúnamh Dé!

The British Imperialist Army have brought nothing but utter misery and division to this island. The British Army has robbed the Irish people of their very own Nation. Leinster House and their army would do well to remember this and take note of it, and not bring great shame on themselves by participating in British imperialist commemorations in the 26 counties.

Irish people supporting and participating in British imperialist war commemorations should all be denounced - it is a betrayal of the highest order to the ideals of those countless brave Irish people who sacrificed their lives and suffered horrendous deaths and injuries to free this island since 1169.

Fair play to Cllr McGibbon-as for RSF i expected nothing different from them. Attacking a SF member who opposes a welcoming home parade for the British Army. Who really pulls the strings in RSF?
