When politicians claim the public supports extreme measures like banning meat or digital ID you can be sure that behind it is a Citizens' Assembly or other dubious method for manufacturing 'consent', says Alex Klaushofer.

category cork | miscellaneous | press release author Sunday March 11, 2007 21:28author by Muck Savage - Ógra Shinn Féinauthor email osfnational at yahoo dot ie Report this post to the editors

The Ógra Cumann of UCC Sinn Féin are proud to announce that they have been awarded the title of the best Political Society in UCC for the Academic year 2006/2007. We in the Martin Hurson Cumann are very proud of this achievement and we feel it shows the fact that UCC Sinn Féin are the hardest working, most dedicated and motivated political society in UCC.

NIce to see you were following the party and cosying up to college authorities. It's quite clear ye didn't do anything to piss the college off, like say protest in any meangingful way.

Well done lads, so much glory in the university of colonial corruption. The president has enriched himself and his buddies with millions of euro by selling research to a foreign weapons manufacturer (Smiths is British). Global private capital entrepreneurs took control of the restructuring programme. The campus is storage for radioactive waste from a disused American research reactor. Foreign university experts have slammed administrative practices.

Do polish your bauble before you stick it alongside your great-grandparents' medals.

Sea! Cumann poilitíochta i bparáid scéimhe?

Cá bhfuil na beartanna, na stailceanna, na muirthéachtaí, na diospóireachtaí, na suíonna istigh, na mórshúilta, na paimfléidí, an cur ar súile na n-údarás, an fhearg, an tathaint, an bheocht?

Cad a dhéanfaidh sibh i ndiaidh coláiste? Comhluchtaí Chaidreamh Phoiblí a chur suas?

Well done lads, ye deserved it. never mind the cranks on this site who assume any such honour is a sign of corruption. Ye raised valuable funds for Aware when ye could have been funding yourselves instead. You raised key issues in the college and should be commended.

As a West Cork Republican who recently left SF for ideological reasons and who knows many people within UCC SF, I can assure you they are good republicans and are certainly not afraid to protest.

I was a member of the John Joe Kavanagh Cumann of Sinn fein in UCC in the late eighties. We were refused recognition every year I was in College by the College authorities. We had to run our cumann from funds raised voluntarily and were regu;lary in scrapes with the authorities. How times have changed, but then again we opposed the British Occupation, the police north and south, advocated revolution and helped the abortion information campaign.

So just because ye had it tough, you don't want to see UCC SF getting any recognition? That hardly makes sense does it. Look, I know these people and I can assure you they have decent politics.

I can assure you SF haven't cozied up to anyone. They were extremely hard working and well deserved the prize. Its after really stimulating competition on campus between the political societies.

Well done to UCC SF. They were far from docile on campus all year, and were never afraid to speak out. Valued contribution to College life, its not all about revolution, hard work goes a long way to!

What did UCC SF actually DO apart from getting some medal from someone? You can all post self-serving congrats, but no hint of achievements. What about the very serious changes going on in universities, with UCC leading the way to private third level? Even all the middle-of-the-road political activism on sexual health and road safety has no trace of SF involvement. SF had some barney about a statue, that was it. What does this college medal mean, apart from fitting in with some middle class notions?
