Mayday 05; To affinity and beyond

RTS and Dissent Ireland are organising a street party for monday 2nd May 05 in solidarity with those planning to disrupt this years G8 summit
(which is being held less than 200miles away in Gleneagles Scotland) and in the spirit of the Global anti-capitalist movement organising for a better world.

Reclaim the streets is YOUR party and is whatever you make it - Bring Noise, Bring Colour, Bring Friends!

As well as the action and banging sound-systems we have planned for Mayday we want to encourage people to form their own affinity groups in advance and bring their own plans and ideas.
This is your chance to take over your city and do whatever you want.
Useful items to bring might include; bicycles, paints, chalk, banners, musical instruments, bouncy castle, sand, paddling pool, carpets, armchairs, sound systems, drums, puppets, costumes, footballs and your most bad-ass dancing shoes.

Here's some of our ideas..

Would it not be possible to hold the reclaim the streets party on the Saturday when there are more people in town? It'll also avoid going into work on tuesday with an awful hangover. I Know the hangover can be dealt with but try organising four hundred kids and teaching them English Literature with it. Grand for college students who grow up and leave the spirit of dissent behind them but for those of us who choose a career that allows us to continue to dissent and question it is hard to do so when not in the full of your health. Besides that, have fun and hope to see you all there.
