Potential safety issues with solar panels were known to a council for more than a year before a fire broke out at a primary school this month, following a similar fire at a community centre in June 2024.

Professor James Alexander, who once played in a Heavy Metal band, pays tribute to Ozzy Osbourne as a pioneer of the genre that for many young men supplies an identity and lifestyle. Yes, it's weird. But it has its place.

In a conversation with a GB News editor last week, Paul Homewood was reminded just how little understanding there is in the media of how much Net Zero is going to cost us. Time to spell it out in terrifying detail.

Independent Workers Union May Day Event 2013

Independent Workers Union May Day Event. Commemorating the Centenary of the Dublin Lockout in Speech, Prose and Song. Wednesday 01/05/2013. Ceremony at the James Connolly Statue, Beresford Place near Liberty Hall and the Custom House, Dublin, starting at 5.30 p.m. Gathering afterwards in Cleary’s Public House, 36 Amiens Street for light refreshments.

Dear Friends,

I wish to let you know that this year’s Independent Workers Union Dublin Branch 'May Day’ Commemoration Event is taking place on Wednesday, the 1st May, 2013 at 5.30 p.m. at the James Connolly Statue, Beresford Place, near Liberty Hall and beside the Custom House building.

This year is a very special one as we are commemorating the Centenary of the Dublin Lockout. In 1913, workers took a stand for the right to organise into trade unions, for recognition of their unions by employers and to be paid a fair wage for their work. In 2013, that struggle continues!

To mark the occasion Gearoid O'Conarain, PRO, IWU Dublin Branch, Dick O’Carroll, IWU member and grandson of Councillor Richard O’Carroll, who played a key role in supporting the strikers in 1913, and Diego Gómez-Ayala, Confederación General del Trabajo (CGT) and IWU member, will provide keynote addresses.

Our event will be an opportunity to mark this Centenary year through speech, prose and in song followed by a wreath-laying ceremony. Willie Byrne, Singer/Songwriter, will sing some songs appropriate to the occasion. Afterwards, we will adjourn to Cleary’s Public House, 36 Amiens Street, for some light refreshments. I hope you can make it along on the day and to join us in marking this occasion!

Fraternally yours,

Mark Kavanagh
